Art Minute: High Energy 25, Elsa Zahar Memorial Award Winner, Jozee Clayton

In this week’s Art Minute we are taking a close look at Oscar, by Jozee Clayton. Jozee is the winner of this year’s Elsa Zahar Memorial award, which is given out annually as part of the High Energy exhibition. For this award, a jury of professional artists and Art Gallery of St. Albert staff select one winning piece, and several honourable mentions. Oscar demonstrates many of the qualities that the jury looks for, including visual impact and artistic skill, expression, creativity, originality, and diversity.

And in the time of COVID 19, in the midst of a global pandemic and shutdown, when YouTube and cat videos are king – could there have been another winner?!

Congratulations Jozee Clayton! Oscar is a mesmerizing piece, and incredibly deserving of this year’s award.
