The Art Gallery of St. Albert (part of the Arts and Heritage Foundation) is preparing for the launch of its newest exhibition that is filled with wit and humorous tropes.
Kyle Beal’s Spectator Sports debuts in our Main Gallery tomorrow (Dec 3).
Much of Beal’s work in Spectator Sports was created during the spring COVID-19 shutdown, and although it is not in direct response, his creations reveal a person’s unconscious search for celebrity. The rise of social media and some people’s addiction to it has cast many as their own brand ambassadors. Beal’s creations play upon humans’ quirks. His distinct brand of humour elicits unease and self-reflection.
Here’s a sneak peek at the exhibition thanks to our Director/Curator, Jenny Willson.
