Art Rental & Sales Gallery Associate

 Art Gallery of St. Albert with Arts and Heritage St. Albert has an exciting opportunity for a friendly, mature and responsive individual. This full-time position supports artistic achievement in St. Albert and surrounding areas by developing the Art Rental and Sales Gallery (ARSG) and retail gallery shop.

Duties include:

  • Maintaining and developing ARSG and the Gallery Shop as a visitor destination and a revenue generator
  • On going artist/client relationships, sales, inventory, art installation, exhibition, storage, financial management and administrative support
  • Developing and maintaining online ARSG and retail databases
  • Securing new clients and artists for the Art Rental & Sales Program and Gallery Shop
  • Supervision of front desk and support staff
  • Working with the Director and team of staff members on special projects
  • Public art gallery representation and participation in gallery events and programs

 

Ideal Candidates Possess:  

  • A post secondary degree or equivalent in visual arts, arts administration and/or business
  • Five years experience working in a sales and/or visual arts administration environment
  • Successful sales and business management in the cultural sector
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills, and a passion for working with the public, clients and artists
  • Professionalism, superior organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Knowledge of and passion for local, provincial, traditional and contemporary art
  • Proficient computer skills, including FileMaker, Excel, Photoshop and WordPress
  • Knowledge and expertise in art handling and installation
  • Ability to lift heavy objects and install and transport art
  • Driver’s licence and vehicle required for client meetings, studio visits and transporting artworks

 

Work Schedule:

  • 35 hour week: 9 am – 5 pm Tues to Sat, 12 – 8 pm Thurs
  • Reporting to the Director/ Curator, the position has a three month probationary period
  • Occasional evening and weekend work required to support Gallery activities (outside of weekly schedule)

Required prior to employment commencement:

  • A police security clearance will be required upon job offer

Art Educator/Programmer at Art Gallery of St. Albert

Job Type: Contract position: 10 months (Sept. 2016 to June 2017) with possibility of extension

Hours: Required hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 am – 3:30 pm. Actual work schedules are provided monthly and working hours are based on registrations received. Extra opportunities may arise to teach evening or weekend classes

Wage: $50.00 – $55.00 per class, based on qualification and experience

The Art Educator/Programmer supports artistic achievement and visual culture in St. Albert and surrounding area, by providing inspiring, engaging and hands-on educational art programs for the community.

Duties Include:

  • Preparation and delivery of curriculum-based visual art programs for schools and homeschool groups. Programs take place at schools or in the St. Albert Place Visual Art Studios
  • Organize and maintain program equipment and supplies
  • Ensure proper health and safety procedures are followed
  • Provide excellent customer service to all participants

Ideal Candidates Possess: 

  • Passionate about art with a Fine Arts Diploma/ Degree, Art Education Degree or equivalent/ transferable skills/ experience
  • Minimum 1 year experience instructing children, youth or adults in group settings
  • Passion for working with children
  • Studio experience with various media
  • Experience with clay (wedging/ hand-building)
  • Effective classroom management skills for diverse groups and age levels
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Proactive, flexible and positive approach to all aspects of the job
  • Reliable and dependable team player
  • French fluency an asset
  • Advanced clay skills (throwing/glazing) an asset

Required prior to employment commencement:

  • Current Standard First Aid/CPR certificate
  • RCMP criminal records check and a vulnerable sector check
