Gene and J. Marg Brenda (and friends)
February 2 – April 8, 2017
Opening Reception: Saturday, February 4, 2:30 – 5pm
It’s hard not to fall in love with Gene and Marg Brenda. They’re an endearing and engaging long-term retired couple — who also happen to be prolific art-makers. Marg and Gene embody the joy and wellness that creative endeavours bring to our lives.
The couple’s cozy home is a panorama of their worldwide journeys and passionate artistic explorations. Their works encompass a lifetime of artistic learning through a variety of outlets: community classes‚ workshops‚ retreats, and classes through the Edmonton Lifelong Learners Association (ELLA) at the University of Alberta Faculty of Extension. These artistic endeavours have given both a variety of experiences and skills across a wide range of mediums and styles. They have nurtured their individual talents and interests‚ while inspiring their collective appetite to see and learn.
The couple’s creative endeavours include photography‚ ceramics (including raku)‚ mixed media‚ and both watercolour and acrylic painting. Their scope is far–reaching and their explorations many and varied.
Creative Endeavours also features candid contemporary photographic portraits of Gene and Marg in their home‚ captured by Edmonton photographer Amber Bracken.
Other art-makers displaying their works include instructors and participants in Gallery Community Programs and a few of the Brenda’s past art tutors.
The exhibition celebrates artistic achievement in the community‚ and reveals the profound joy granted to those willing to take the creative plunge.
