Heather Shepherd was born and raised in St. Albert, Alberta. She studied Art History at the University of Alberta while attending pottery workshops with the Art Gallery of St. Albert and attending Folk School in the U.S. During this time, she developed skills in pottery wheel-throwing and hand-building, as well as basket weaving and book-binding.
In 2014, Heather became a member of the St. Albert Potters Guild and has instructed workshops for AGSA and the St. Albert Potters Guild since.
Heather recently began using silkscreen image transfers in her work. She is inspired by DIY culture, contemporary craft, and by folk and minimalist traditions. Heather is currently attending the Kootenay School of the Arts in Nelson, BC to master new technical and conceptual approaches to pottery.
