Stella Kaufman has been teaching at the AGSA for 15 years. She was born and educated in England receiving her PGCE from the University of London and BFA from Exeter College of Art. Kaufman has lived in Cyprus, Canada, and Uruguay. She currently lives in Edmonton but spends each winter at her studio in La Poloma, Uruguay. Situated on the Atlantic coast she’s often inspired by the fauna and flora of this area. Postcards from Birds is a series that “took flight based on observations and daydreams of birds” in Uruguay and Canada. Kaufman’s work is often mixed-media and incorporates drawing, watercolour, collage, and found objects.
