Based out of Edmonton AB, Patti Hartnagel has been a dedicated raku artist for the past 30 years. Her work merges Japanese techniques of raku firing with Italian majolica decorative styles, and Southwest Native American pottery forms. When asked about what keeps her interested in raku, Hartnagel says “the raku process itself, even after almost 30 years, continues to intrigue, and lead me, in different directions. Raku firing, with its lack of predictability, constantly presents alternative paths.”

Hartnagel is a member of the Alberta Craft Council, and in 2013 was featured in their Golden Edge exhibition. She has taken workshops at the University of Alberta, Red Deer College, Mechosin Arts Institute (BC), Taos Institute of the Arts (New Mexico), Studio Giambo (Florence, Italy), and Vetrate Artistiche Toscana (Siena, Italy).
