Dreaming of Canada: A Mail Art Project

Calling all artists, designers, illustrators, and the artistically inclined: show us your most creative mail art! We are celebrating Canada’s 150th birthday with a cross-country, multi-media, multi-participant, mail art extravaganza. Mail art is an inclusive and playful artistic movement, centered on the sharing of small scale art using the Canadian postal service.

The title of this mail art project is Dreaming of Canada. Share your aspirations or hopes, contemplate the potential of our nation’s future or delve into your subconscious and create something fantastic!

Take Part in the Exhibition:

The postal system is the integral part of the mail art medium. Craft a postcard, an artistic letter, and/or art-envelope. Experiment and be creative!

  • Exhibited pieces will be hung on a wall and must be display ready
  • Envelopes cannot exceed Canada post’s standard letter mail maximum of 9.1 x 6.1″
  • When your mail art piece is ready, put a stamp on it, and send it (by mail) to: Art Gallery of St. Albert, Dreaming of Canada, 19 Perron Street, St. Albert, AB T8N 1E5

No fee, no jury, no returns!

Deadline for submission: Tuesday, August 22, 2017

Join us on February 16, 2017 at 6:30pm for an information session on the project at Art Gallery of St. Albert.

Share photos of your creative process or final piece using the hashtag #AGSAgotmail; selected work will be photographed, scanned and/or displayed online.

There will be a final exhibition of selected works in the Gallery vault throughout Sept/Oct 2017 to celebrate Alberta Culture Days.

Depending on early participation there may be a preview of the project in spring 2017.
